The tesseract — the star gate sequence
→ 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Cooper's journey through the black hole is Nolan's explicit tribute to the star gate sequence in 2001. Both directors use the journey as a formal device: conventional narrative dissolves, only sensation remains.
